The academy is forming a chamber board that will mirror the Thames Gateway Chamber one with the directors taking an active role in bringing the young people into their companies. This will mean a reality check for those making up their minds on the career front and possible job opportunities for those who find their true niche.

Thames Gateway Skills Envoy and North Kent Young Chamber patron Sir David Melville said: 'The Thames Gateway is the largest economic regeneration area in Europe aimed at ensuring it is a world-class place in which to live and work.  Along with economic development come employment opportunities, often in new and modern industrial sectors and increasingly requiring higher level skills.

"A key aim is that residents and communities in the Gateway are able to take advantage of these opportunities and essential to this aim is that young people are equipped with the highest education and skills levels within their capabilities. Involvement in the Young Chamber will play an important part in developing skills and preparing our future leaders.'

Frank Green, Leigh Academy's Chief Executive added it was another step for the school's style of education of which the state of the art building has been a catalyst.

Dartford Borough Council leader Jeremy Kite said:" Leigh students behave like responsible citizens and much of this is attributed to the relaxed learning environment. I am immensely brought of these young people and feel the link with the Chamber can only enhance their job opportunities."
