It looks like employees are expected to endure another tough year in 2010 as businesses continue to face an uphill struggle in difficult trading conditions.
The British Chambers of Commerce’s (BCC), latest monthly business
survey reveals that 63 per cent of businesses are planning wage freezes
or pay cuts next year, while 18 per cent are considering the removal of
benefits, such as bonuses and gym membership.

Commenting on the macro economic elements of today’s PBR, David Kern, Chief Economist at the British Chambers of Commerce said:
"The PBR acknowledged that the official 2009 GDP forecast in the Budget was too optimistic. The recession was clearly much deeper than previously envisaged. The Chancellor’s GDP growth forecasts for 2009 and 2010 are now realistic and achievable.

The Secretary of State for Transport, Lord Adonis, has appointed Helen Alexander, CBE, as Chairman of the Board of the Port of London Authority (PLA), with effect from 1 January 2010. She will succeed Simon Sherrard, who has been PLA Chairman since 2001.
