Imagine walking from London to Glasgow, a distance of nearly 500 miles. Well that's the mileage legal firm Thompson, Snell & Passmore staff completed in their effort to raise money for The Hospice in the Weald and EllenorLions Hospices and it paid off handsomely. They raised £3200 which was added to the £8200 already raised by the firm this year. Teams of walkers set off from the firm's offices in Tunbridge Wells and Thames Gateway meeting in the middle in Sevenoaks. The 35 participants walked a combined total of over 500 miles. The hospices will again benefit in the autumn when staff will also be racing again in a Chinese-style dragon boat at the Dragon Boat Festival at Bewl Water.Last year, with support from friends and contacts, the firm raised more than £9,000 for the Kent Wildlife Trust and the firm hopes to surpass this total this year. Thomson Snell & Passmore Senior Partner James Partridge said: "The sponsored walk and Dragon Boat Festival are fun ways to raise money for the two very deserving local charities we are supporting this year. "The hospices do vitally important work in caring for those people with progressive and life threatening illnesses and their families. Without such establishments many local people would struggle to cope with debilitating illnesses." Linda Trew from EllenorLions Hospices and Amanda Wyatt from Hospice in the Weald were on hand to congratulate the walkers and receive their cheque (pictured). |
