Southern Water’s public affairs manager Andy Shaddick has been forced to apologise for the recent Southern Water roadworks’ mayhem that brought Sittingbourne town centre and beyond to a halt over a number of days.. Mr Shaddick said his company was sorry for the disruption and inconvenience that the closure of Dover Street at the junction with West Street has caused while the urgent work is underway. He said: ”Our supplier Clancy Docwra worked as quickly as possible to repair a sewer which initial investigations have revealed to be damaged in five separate places. This emergency work is vital to ensure that properties are protected from sewer flooding. “I can assure you that our team was fully aware of the understandable concerns of residents and businesses and every attempt is being made to minimise the inconvenience. We have also been visiting businesses in the area to discuss any concerns traders may have. “We worked closely with Kent County Council’s Highway Services to ensure that traffic congestion in the town was kept to a minimum.” |
