Get to grips with employment law

The FTSE may be climbing and there are signs that the economy could grow this quarter but unemployment continues to rise and the mood remains sceptical about the strength of the UK economy.

Employment issues are a particularly thorny problem in this difficult climate which has prompted law firm and Furley Page to present three more of its popular and comprehensive workshops in October and November in association with the Chamber.

The firm's employment team, led by partner Andrew Masters, gets top ranking from independent legal guide Chambers UK.

Andrew, recognised by Chambers as a ‘leader in the field of employment law', said: "The workshops are an important initiative for employers - particularly as the continuing economic downturn has far-reaching implications for them. They need to keep on top of the recent and future changes in the law, which affect all businesses, and have a clear understanding of best HR practice to avoid unnecessary and costly disputes.

"The workshops are open to chamber members and non-members throughout Kent and suited to all firms no matter what workforce size. As well as practical guidance, there will be question and answer sessions."

Joining Andrew are employment lawyers Amanda Okill, also recognised by Chambers as a leader in the field of employment law, Melissa Edmond and specialist HR consultant Hugh Horsford.

Workshops include:

  • Employment Law Update for 2009/10 - Wednesday 21 October

  • Investigating Discipline and Grievances in the Workplace - Wednesday 4 November

  • Managing Sickness Absence - Wednesday 18 November

They will be held at the Thames Gateway (Kent) Chamber of Commerce offices, Medway City Estate, Rochester, starting at 9am and finishing with coffee and sandwiches at 12.30pm.

Costs, which include coffee and sandwiches and VAT, are £50 to Thames Gateway Chamber members and £65 to non-members. Bookings can be made by calling 01634 311411 or emailing Sharon Hogbin on shogbin@tgcoc.co.uk
